I understand and some years it’s a better match than others. I know several kids who had the vaccine and still got very sick with the flu for several day. It seems like it wasn’t a great match this year.


The flu shot is closer to 30% effective on any given year.

Flu A is not a single virus, it has MANY subtypes, some infect people and bats but not birds and pigs, some affect birds but not people, some affect people, birds, pigs, and other animals and they are always mixing and matching and fooling around.

I had heard this and brought it up with my ped who said that was overblown. He said he absolutely recommends Tamiflu.

Kids die of flu. Not often, but flu itself is a problem with “side effects.” Tamiflu made a huge difference for us.

Tamiflu is a miracle drug. It was great for my kid with flu A. Definitely recommend.

I've had the flu vaccine twice in my life. Both times I got the flu.

I stopped getting it after that.

There are side effects to all drugs and vaccines. are you just going to stop taking everything because there MIGHT be a side effect?

This kind of thinking is why freaking measles has made a comeback.

well, you also have to have herd immunity. Not enough uptake of flu vaccine for that to be anywhere close to possible. Not to mention the changing strains.

Covid being a new disease, it is very similar with mutations that allow it to evade the vaccine.

My flu vaxxed kid was better within 2 days with Tamiflu. Day 1 got prescription, day 2 still had fever, day 3 was fine. Unsure if it was Tamiflu that actually helped, or just being vaxxed shortened it. High fevers/chills/body aches on day 1 - 104.5. Day 2 spiked to 102-ish but body aches gone. Day 3 was just bored at home from school.

Just like every other year. I have stopped getting a flu vaccine and definitely skip it for the kids.

No medication claims that you won't get the flu but only that it won't be as bad as the flu without the medication. I got a flu shot and after a plane trip got the flu but was only sick for 24 hours instead of a week.

I used Tamiflu for my kids. Two of them got it without first day of symptoms, and their flu was very mild. Fever gone within 24 hrs of starting Tamiflu. Back to normal a day after that.
