+1. My kid is in college and he's 20, but I'm still underwriting the vast majority of his living expenses. He's driving my car, I pay for his cell phone, his auto insurance, I'm paying for his tuition, I'm buying his food, etc.

My kids have always known if they get a tattoo I'm not paying for college.

Now if it comes down to him actually getting one, will I blow up our relationship over it? Probably not. But it's been a good deterrent. I'm just hoping to get them to an older, more thoughtful age and maturity.

Setting aside that it is a bad idea to try this, here is the only idea I can come up with that has any chance whatsoever of working....

Pay them.

Tell him that he'll get $X (whatever amount feels like a LOT to him) every semester that he proves he didn't get a tattoo.

That has about a 50% chance of working. Nothing else will.

Op, it's not worth ruining your relationship with your kid when you can get it removed later on if they regret it.

I think you’re fighting a losing battle once they’re 18 and can do it on their own.
