Hi everyone

I have a freshman at Ellington and I just want to wish everyone GOOD LUCK! I remember this time last year and it was stressful, so can really empathize. That's all . . . just some good vibes to send out to the universe.

We had our family interview today. It was a bit chaotic.

No. Very few kids get the family interview. It's basically the final step in the audition process.

I heard that visual arts family interviews happened last week.

Everybody has a family interview. Sometimes possible to get through without a callback, but the family interview is mandatory.

I wouldn't count her out! I have family that have attended...some that had a family interview and some that did not! Hold on to hope

Hello. We had our family interview this week, and it's fair to say that the only way to know the final decision is through the lottery when the results are posted on March 29th. The interview really is the last phase of the process where yes, there's a bit of a dive into grades, favorite and least favorite subjects, recommendations, and also the expectations of the student and family. There's lots of autonomy and freedom at DESA, so the committee is curious about whether or not the child has good time management skills and the ability to balance the demands of their academic subjects and their departmental requirements. They s want to make sure that the family is aware of the long school hours, the expectations of the particular department, and they open it up to any questions the family may have. It's really an opportunity to share anything that the application may not have been able to highlight, and is quite comfortable and not at all something that feels stressful or intimidating.

Do they let you know if you got in at the family interview?

Yes, doubling down on PP above. The submissions for auditions and your performance at callbacks are pretty much all anyone looks at before family interviews. "We got in" is definitely the wrong way to approach the interview.

They actually don't. Up until the family interview, talent is the measure. They may have glanced at the other things and noted them to ask later, but those are not an issue until they have the time to ask about them. Also, a kid may be a possible yes or just a maybe with some questions. You should view the interview as very much a third audition. Do yourself a favor as a parent and don't monopolize the conversation.

This is not completely accurate. Family interviews are when they look deeply at grades, absences, recommendations, other issues that may arise. Not a guarantee at all.

NP. Haven’t heard yet for Visual Art and had been quite confident this far that we’d get in. Getting nervous now. Anybody heard about family interviews for Visual Arts yet? Thanks
