Personally, I think navy cabinets will not stand the test of time and will eventually become dated, just like the avocado kitchens of the past, but if you love them, it doesn’t matter. I chose wood, and the natural walnut I chose will probably also look dated eventually, but I love it right now.
Ask your cabinetmaker if they can use a tinted primer under the paint. This will help with eventual wear. Consider guards at high traffic areas, light the garbage pullout and panel over dishwasher.
Cabinets are exposed to grease, either from cooking or from fingerprints. Grease attracts dust. Dust is more visible on dark surfaces than on light. Imagine a black t shirt covered in lint vs a white one. If there is oblique sunlight, it will magnify the issue. Make sure you avoid matte finishes and be prepared to wipe down cabinets more often than if they were lighter in color.
