We make ~$500k and drive a Toyota mostly because we both care very deeply about reliability. If our HHI doubled I would still care most about reliability, but I wouldn't say no to something a bit nicer on the inside, so I guess I'd test out a Lexus? Not a car person but not really an austerity-for-austerity's-sake person either.

We live downtown. Drive an 8 year old mini because it is easy to park. Have a 13 yo minivan to haul kids and friends. Unless I had a garage and was not regularly required to park on DC streets, there is no way I am spending $ on a fancy car. Would rather buy art. Or travel. Everyone has their own standards regarding what luxuries they like to indulge in. Some people like cars.

I drive a 7 year old Subaru Forester and my husband a used Porsche Macan. Neither of us are car people. I’m about to get a new Forester as it has better safety features and a better back up camera. Most of our friends have nicer cars but we like what we have.

I was hoping to get in here before everybody responded with "a 16 year old Ford that belonged to my little sister but still runs perfectly well!". OP, I know plenty of people who make half of that and drive luxury cars (RR, Benz, Audi, BMW) etc. because they like nice things and aren't concerned about appearing WASPY. If you don't want to spend $60k+ on a car that's fine, but you can afford to and plenty in your income bracket do.

I drive a minivan, HHI a little over a million. OP, don't pay attention to that rude comment. I have no idea what anyone drives, either. Some people care about cars and some people don't. I notice many men in my office always know who is in and who isn't simply by looking at the parking lot. That's not me. I've been at my firm for 15 years and I don't think I could name one person's car. I couldn't care less about the image of the car I drive; I just want something functional - with sliding doors, baby, and the ability to walk back to the third row - so that I can easily haul my three kids and their friends. I also don't judge a person by their car. If someone has a fancy car (even I can recognize a Lambo) I don't figure they're a douchebag. I just figure they probably always dreamed about a car like that and finally got one, and good for them.
