It’s 100x better than what my kids experienced at Wood.

I have 2 RHS graduates, class of 2023 and 2024. If your kid is studious and focused on school, they will do well. The IB Diploma program specifically is great. But extracurriculars are lacking and we had to look elsewhere for opportunities. If your kid is prone to trouble, BOY can they find it at RHS however. The principal is terrible and so is the music department. They got new teachers about 1.5 years ago and they are very green and inexperienced.

I am a previous poster with a kid who has thrived at Rockville. He’s had a good experience with smart, motivated friends and peers, a diverse and really great groups of kids/classmates. I don’t for a second suggest that this describes every kid at the school, but my kid has had a good experience.
He has also had good teachers who are working hard to help kids achieve.
Someone asked where my kid wants to go to college. He has applied to a range of schools, including an Ivy League school, several that are considered very highly competitive, and several other schools that are less “prestige” but have good programs that he is interested in. Rockville definitely has kids aiming for and getting in to very competitive schools, if that was the point of the question.

Umm, did you miss the sex case from several years ago? It was definitely big news. Or has enough time passed (and enough other incidents at other HSs) that it is old news?

The neighborhoods that feed into Rockville HS have changed dramatically over the past 10 years. Really, the county as a whole has changed.

Talk to your neighbors. Which neighborhood are you in? Flower Valley has a very tight knit (majority White) community so they just seem to mingle with each other at RHS. But other feeder schools have more diverse populations and may have a different point of view.

I thought she took charge at Homecoming and shut it down early because some of the kids were acting up?

Anyway, this is the case at ALL MCPS high schools. The kids are constantly acting up and there are few repercussions.

We are zoned for Rockville HS with a younger kid and these comments are concerning.
Yes, the neighborhood has changed within this 10 years but it’s the same MCPS curriculum. Not enough cohorts?

I haven’t found this at all. The principal is responsive and committed to the students. She shows up at every game and every show and every event. They know she cares.

The good thing about sports at Rockville —there’s a higher chance of getting on the basketball team than if he were at a bigger school, but they aren’t the team that dominates.

OP here- I was hoping that was tge case. Our home team school is pretty competitive. We just accepted to one of the IBCP programs.
