This is OP. Well aware of the cost, but I think with merit it’s worth it. Burlington is a great city and DC wants health science so the hospital on campus provides a lot of opportunities. Also interested in environmental sciences.

We aren’t too worked up over rankings. The older sibs have made it into amazing grad schools from state schools.

Anyone can Google the list of Harvard law school accepted students to see the schools they came from. Hint: They come from a wide range of schools people here would turn their nose up at. ASU was one in a past year.

Merit aid is not generous enough. Cost of attendance is over $70,000. It's not worth over $70,000 and it isn't worth $55,000 either.

No one should be paying $65k a year for the university of Vermont. UVA in-stste is $37k.

In state UVA is $39,494 for 1st yr College of Arts and Sciences, but jumps to $52K for 3rd & 4th yrs in the most sought after departments. Engineering is $50K all 4 yrs. UVM out of state is about $60K, but offers $20-25K merit aid for high stat kids.

Forgot to add that recent grads we know are doing well, landed jobs before graduation in Boston, NYC and DC.

DD TO, 4.4, 4-5s on AP exams, leadership, sports, volunteer, part time job. $25K presidential award. Absolutely loved the school, the town and opportunities discussed for research and internships during our tour. Was thinking enviro policy/science, but now leaning business/law and accepted to schools that align a bit more with those interests.

My kid threw in an application at the last minute, never visited and still got a merit package. Didn’t end up attending, but it made her feel great!

Science major, works for a Consulting firm (client projects revolve around Sustainability/Green Energy/Environment). Loves it!
