Those track as old-lady "slacks" to me. So I'll continue to agree with anyone knocking Talbots.

I second Anthro - they have started carrying some fun brands for all ages. In the past 6 months I have been literally "fit checked" twice by strangers asking where my dresses came from (2 different ones). They also have a good selection of nice fitting black pants for work.

I buy pants at Talbots. They also have cute jackets some seasons. I wouldn't dress head to toe, but, I usually get a piece or two each season.

I am 47 who only works at the office twice a week. I love a crisp button up, but haven’t worn one for a while. What? Because I would have to go to the cleaners for that crisp look because I’ve never been good at ironing. It’s easier to wear knits, or silk or silky/machine washable clothes. I do miss lined wool trousers and wish I’d kept more of them from the past.

Yes! And for years has been talking about her crisp button ups. I was about to respond and say I wonder if it is the same person and then I reread the post above and lo and behold she mentions the button ups.

Who wears “crisp” button ups anymore? They were a thing when I went to law school 20 years ago. Not so much now. Maybe the Hermes scarves pull it all together

I’m not that PP but the look she’s describing sounds like most women in Chevy Chase over 60 to me and also sounds fine for anywhere?

I’m 40 but I have pull on ponte pants! They’re really comfy and great for business travel imo. If you want a stretch pant for work, it’s good to have a thicker fabric. They’re not stylish, maybe, but they’re useful.

I’m all for women dressing how they want but OP didn’t ask to look younger. There’s nothing wrong with being a bit old fashioned if it’s comfortable and functional for you.

While this would be true if you dressed head to toe from these places I don’t rule any of them out completely. Talbots can be good for classic or basics, JJill has the occasional Anthro look alike shirt, etc. Chico’s is pretty hopeless, but I did actually get a cute pair of petite wide leg jeans there last year. Basics tend to look the same no matter where they come from.

Sadly, once i hit menopause, the J Crew pants (and some other brands) no longer fit me. They just aren't cut right.

These are lined. So hard to find, but Talbots manages to offer a couple of lined pants each season. Everyone else seems to have given up.

Sigh...my husband who is pretty clueless on gifts usually avoids buying "stuff" - we are much more likely to celebrate birthdays by going out to a nice restaurant than exchanging gifts. But he got a suggestion a couple years ago from a friend to buy me a Hermes scarf for Christmas -- I think it was $400? I work for an nonprofit. I've worn it to work-related events and have gotten compliments on it but honestly would be pretty embarrassed if anyone recognized it as Hermes. It goes without saying that when I have worn it the entire rest of my outfit including shoes likely cost far less than $400.

My more splurge clothes come from Anthropologie. I love MM LaFleur but the only items I've owned I bought from consignment stores or Poshmark. Ditto for Eileen Fisher - love it for sweaters and basics but shop for it at Nordstrom Rack and when there's a big sale on.

Yes, but you have to really weed through Anthro to find stuff that would look good on older women. Partly because Anthro has so many offerings now and b/c it seems they're going after a younger clientele also (20s) with lots of backless / crop things. I find lots of age appropriate stuff there but I do visit the app quite frequently. I assume OP is asking about a store that consistently has age appropriate things that are easy to find, rather than weeding.
Nordstrom is similarly huge and while I do love Saks, it's pricey and big, and it would help to know what brands at Saks to target.

I thought anthro's target market was 35-60, or something like that?

Stores age with their customers.

It certainly used to be when I started shopping there 20 years ago, but the selection seems much broader now.
