Four years goes by fast. Good enough college town. If you get in and esp with aid, GO! Indy airport better to fly into than O/MID in Chicago.

Wisconsin is a better school, but Illinois companies don’t recruit from there ever.

I worked in consulting, manufacturing and cpg in Chicago for 20 years and it was well known and most top companies recruited there.

no more DCA-chambana AA flights? perish the thought.
hideous campus, very spread out and the smell from south farms is putrid.
good for cs, agr, biz, engr & that’s it.

The business school, in addition to CS & Engineering, seems to have a good reputation.

As an alum, Illinois is a classic work hard, play hard school. You could certainly party every day if you wanted to do so, but you’ll wash out quickly if you’re not working hard academically.

There is a lot of partying at the bars, which allow students in at age 19. Greek life is also big. But it’s a huge school with lots of clubs and sports. Kids can find non-alcohol-related things to do with a little effort. It’s the Bible Belt, so there are active church groups as well.

Party school meaning binge drinking, drugs and wild XXX? Or something else?

Do CS/Engineering kids have time for a social life?

I cannot think of any E School where a serious student (one at least trying to do his/her best) has very much free time left after classes, labs, problem sets / homework, lab reports, etc. Some free time sure, mostly on Friday night and Saturday night, but not very much. Any E School is a grind.

Kid is enjoying life in a different part of the country. I’ve decided I prefer to fly in and out of Indianapolis rather than Chicago. The drive is shorter and airport easier to navigate.

Makes sense and sounds like a better alternative. O'Hare positively sucks.

DD is admitted. Quite excited. Will visit in Spring Break. Happy to have the option to choose among VT, UMass and Pitt.
