Our school no longer allows any type of holiday celebration so Valentine's are out..... If my kid did not want to participate, I don't think I would make them though

Having same issue with our 10th grader.

Just buy or print some neutral ones, sign his name and be done with it.

My 3rd grader doesn’t want to do valentines either. He didn’t want to do them last year in 2nd grade but I made him do it bc I thought everyone else is participating and I didn’t want him to be a spoilsport for a class group activity. But this year I’m not going to make him do it. It’s not worth the argument and I don’t think anyone really cares if they don’t get a mass produced valentines card w a candy attached to it from my son.

I told my kids that if they were going to get candy, they should give some out too. Doesn't need a lot of effort, just grab a bag of something and call it a day. But I didn't want them reaping the benefits of others handing out valentines with candy if they weren't going to do their part.

No one will care. He will get a bag of cards and goodies. Have fun.

This makes me sad. My 3rd grade boy is still in to it. I would feel weird about him not participating if it were a class wide event. I think i would be the parent that writes his name on them for him!

My middle boy has said similar and I'm like - you like receiving candy don't you? Then I think you should give it too - and then he does.

My 9 year old already picked out the candy he wants to give out. Not sure he would be into it if there wasn’t candy involved.

My 9 year old boy also said he’s not giving valentines this year. He said it wasn’t worth it because the school has a new rule banning candy 🤣

No don't make his do this. He used to enjoy it. He no longer does. Don't make him.

Agree! My daughter enjoyed making them but my fourth grade twin boys have zero interest this year. Even last year they weren't that into it, but I made them do it anyway. This year I'm over it too.

That's so lame. I would not enroll my kids in a school so uptight. My son's favorite valentine from last year was one that said "Roses are red, violets are blue, your feet are super stinky and your farts are too!"

Its public school...so it is not going to cause me to start paying tuition.
