A relic of high school life in this area and other UMC cities/areas. They deem it just a natural continuation of the honors & AP, & IB etc.... they've been undertaking all their 7/8 grade to 12th grade years.
At UMD gives you a better chance at a good dorm. Honestly not a big deal though.

What matters is your major, how well you do in college, and the internships you can get. DMV is a great place to do research assistant, or internships gigs.
