It's pretty depressing under a 3.5. I'm curious about the class of 2025 because at our school there are a lot of low GPAs--the average for this year is about a 3.5 while it's often a 3.65. I have no idea where all these kids will land since a 3.8 is required for just about any name brand school talked about on DCUM.
It feels like this model (the Big3 "work really hard for an average GPA of 3.5 because the colleges will understand" one) is a dying one as the rest of the world inflates grades up and up and up some more.
Every year the college counseling offices eek out decent acceptances for almost all the kids. However, I feel like one of these years everyone under the 50% in a grade will be shut out to all schools except (picking a random school) Temple and the entire Big3 model will crash and these private $60K DC high schools will become irrelevant.

Nope.You have no idea what you are talking about. It was 68% in 2022. New admissions director last year (2023) and the ED acceptance rate to Tulane was 31%.
