Positive Development is really wonderful. The clinicians there love what they do, and really want to help families.

Our doctor at Children’s highly recommended Floortime (for social pragmatic communication disorder) but I couldn’t get past the sketchy website and lackluster recommendations here.

I’m still puzzled as to why she would recommend this place.

We reviewed floortime but like others, were put off by it. We had great strides with push in speech and ABA therapies at my child’s preschool. I was very choosy with both my practices— we used OWLS for speech and had the same excellent provider for 3 years who helped my child navigate classroom dynamics, and Patterson Behavior Therapy (a small, woman owned ABA practice) who shadowed my child a couple times a week at school. I was so nervous about ABA after everything I read, but we had a wonderful RBT and BCBA with no turnover over three years and they were such a great resource for any challenges we were facing and a good advocate for our child while honoring their neurodivergence.

Avoid it. Do ABA instead.

This was our experience as well.

Bingo. The director at The Floortime Center in Bethesda subtlety tried to manipulate us into believing they could fix our son’s autism and get him off the spectrum. He is highly manipulative and preys on well intentioned parents. It is purely a business operation. Take a look on indeed. There are comments on there from former therapists attesting to how unethical he is. Avoid Tim Bleecker and Floortime.

I am the first poster who mentioned that we go to Positive Development. My child is eight he goes to OT and also has the play therapy twice a week. I think it’s just good for him social emotional and they’ve been helpful at talking through various issues at school I’m not sure that it’s absolutely imperative for him but I think it’s definitely helpful at working on some social issues and also some body awareness issues.
