I’m a 130-lb PP. My frame is small despite my height. For example, I wear child-sized hats, size 5 rings, size 2 dresses, size 2/4 pants. But my jeans are 34 inches long. My bone density is low too, which is a problem and I’m working on it. There’s such a range of body types and it sounds like you’re healthy and strong. I’m sure you’re beautiful too.

OP here- thanks for your feedback. I am more apple shaped - short waisted with a large chest (36D). At 162, my size 6 jeans are very form fitting and my size 8 jeans a super baggy in the butt. I def still carry some weight around my lower belly from two c-sections.

When I got married, I was about 140 and looked skinny but not toned at all.

I am baffled by people my height who weight in the 130s.

I don't focus on BMI, I focus on strength and muscle, and my waist size. I'm not underweight, and my doctors have never expressed concern. Anyhow OP it sounds like you have a good amount of muscle. if you feel good where you are then stop paying attention to BMI charts, they're highly flawed.

DP but SO SICK of hearing people say this. In what way is BMI “flawed” for normal people? The range of muscle mass/bone density etc. is already taken into account, evident by the fact that you (at 128 pounds) and OP (at 162 pounds), at the same height, are BOTH firmly in the “healthy weight” bin.

Also your comment about my weight vs. OP's weight is EXACTLY why BMI is flawed. My fingers are tired.

I also wanted to add that not a single link you feverishly googled and then copied and pasted without reading supports your assertion that BMI is “flawed”. They merely make the case that BMI ALONE is not the end-all, be-all indicator of health. Newsflash: everyone already knows this. You are not illuminating anything for anyone, here.

Saying that BMI is “flawed” when people use it in a way that was not intended is like saying a hammer is “flawed” because you can’t use it to screw something together. BMI is a useful metric for the average person to use as a starting point to get an idea of their overall health. Obviously it’s not the whole story.

So is it your contention that you and OP are NOT both at a healthy weight?

OP, you and I seem to have similar body types. I am also 5'9" and can hover around 160-165 as my natural weight, but, have been as heavy as 180.

Skinny and fierce for me is 145. I do think I look good at that weight, but as I get older, I just don't care enough. For me to stay below 160 I need to be lifting heavy, doing high intensity cardio, and really restricting my eating (if I'm working out I can eat 1800ish calories a day). As I've gotten older, my guess is that number is going down. I bet I couldn't go above 1500 in my 50s (I also can't workout as intensely). I think I look good in a bathing suit in the 160s, and I like how I look in clothes up to 180. The older I get, the happier I am to have my height! Lots more places for the weight to spread!

I'm 5'8" and pear shaped. The lowest pant size I could ever manage (at 140) was an 8, but I was wearing small tops.

I'm 5'8" and 135 lbs. I can see why, an extra inch in height doesn't require 20 lbs.

I’m 5’9 and also bounce between 150-55. Wear a 6-8 jeans and pants as well and small tops because I have a small chest and can wear most dresses that are A line or swing style in size 4. I’m happy with my body. I strength train 3-4 days a week and do Orange theory 3 times a week and have never felt stronger. I definitely think I have more muscle weight now than when I was in college at 144. I wear some of the same dresses and look better in them now! I’m 44.

I’m 5’8” and was 140 in October, now 130. After decades of gaining and losing these 10 pounds, I started lifting weights and worked with a sports nutritionist to add calories and protein to my diet. Now that I’m at my goal weight, I’ve added calories to maintain and I’ll continue with the strength program to keep adding muscle. My new goal is to get more sleep and manage stress better, which are both key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Good luck!

I'm 5'8" and muscular and weigh 150. Wear a size 6. Used to weigh 140 but then I hit 40, and then 50. 155 probably looks good on you.
