I'm going to have to assume that whoever called you cute did not actually have a conversation with you because you are so prickly and defensive that nothing about it comes off as cute. Maybe enjoy the compliment on your appearance and hope they don't realize how sensitive you are.

Have you never called old people cute? Like a little old lady or little old man cute. Maybe an old couple that has been married 500 years and they’re so cute. You’re like that.

Cute is most akin to perky. Not hot/sexy/spicy/sophisticated/elegant but seems fun enough to bang and hang out with and maybe have a relationship ship with.
It’s kind of generic but still good.

My personal definitions -

Cute: attractive person of any age who gives off a youthful, innocent, diffident or perhaps vulnerable vibe, even though they might not be any of these things. Usually also implies something "less than" stunningly beautiful.

Handsome/beautiful: attractive person of any age who has classic good looks, as defined by the dominant culture.

Pretty: somewhere between the first two.

I have been called cute on numerous occasions. Rarely pretty. Never beautiful. I agree with this assessment of my exterior
