I wouldn’t drive it for just an er, but if they’re lowering his heart rate via, IV, I’m going


It's very common to simply give IV fluids to decrease heart rate in dehydrated individuals.

Sounds like he’s had a rough week. Does he want to come home for a couple of nights? If so just go get him. That’s not hovering, that’s just love. Of course if he wants to handle it himself that’s totally fine too!


I offered multiple times. He was more worried about me being on the road. It’s a crappy hospital, but affiliated with his school. They’ll contact campus transportation and they’ll bring him back to his apartment. Called ER station and they kept tossing me between adult and pediatric ER since he’s not 21. Said call back in an hour! Facetimed for a minute, but low battery. Tech butchered his arm looking for a vein and excuse was dehydration.


Is it snowing where you are? Why is he worried about you driving?

Agree. Kids that age don't know what questions to ask or about the need to monitor symptoms. My kids didn't know what to take for different complaints. They'd ask me how I knew all this stuff.

I think you’ll feel better if you go up today and see him and get a handle of the situation. 2 1/2 hours each way can easily be a day trip if you don’t want to stay overnight. In my experience boys in general will always downplay it and tell you there’s no need to come. On a side note, one of our kids had a health issue in college and speaking to their doctor face to face was well worth the drive.

Sounds like a tough week for your son. Poor guy! Thankfully it sounds like he has really nice roommates who looked out for him; that’s not always the case with college guys, because at that age they can be a bit clueless. I hope he feels better very soon.
