They are locking the doors 5 minutes before the official start of school. That's nasty.

It has been 8:50am forever...

I've seen instances where parents roll up after 9am, drop their kids off and yell at the staff from their cars and don't bother trying to come in. It's really rude and disrespectful to the staff.

It is. My issue with him is trying funding and accreditation to attendance while giving us no real tools to enforce attendance at the same time.

The ASFS website lists school hours as 8:50 am-3:50 pm. Students arriving after 8:50 are causing disruption and should be marked tardy.

Fck Youngkin but absenteeism is a big issue that should be addressed.

Thank goodness for Glenn then I guess. If we can’t make the schools and the parents care about it, someone needs to make sure these kids are in school on time and throughout the day.

Sounds 100% reasonable.

If the bell time is 9 am, they can't mark kids tardy for arriving at 8:55. They can mark them tardy for 9:01.

They are looking the doors at 8:55 to make it a hardship ok parents to drop their kids off that late. You can’t be in your seat by 9:00 if you’re in your mom’s car still at 8:55. This is a method to get the parents to take timeliness more seriously since they have to park and get out and walk in now if they can’t get there kid there on time.

You can thank Gov Youngkin for deciding that schools will lose funding for chronic absenteeism and tardies despite the fact we have no outside mechanisms to enforce attendance any longer (the state no longer takes up truancy cases). Schools have to do something. Getting your kid to school on time isn’t that much to ask.

Interesting. Our school starts at 9 am too but the door doesn’t open until 8:50 am.

9:00 is when instructional time begins. The school start time is 8:50.

No, it’s really not 8:50 am. Not officially. You can ask people to come early, but the official time a kid is late— per APS’s list of school start times— is 9:01 am.

For instructional time. The school can require you to get there earlier, which they have done.

How is it wrong to ask parents to help the school day start off without disruptions? And how hard is it to recognize that time management and being on time is a skill for life? Give me a break! I think she’s doing the right thing and some people, like OP, just can’t take being told the truth.

Congrats Gina on becoming principal. What did CB do to get her moved out so fast?

oP if your child is chronically tardy, you'll get a call from the county, not APS. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way. Kid needs to be in seat by 9, not on the curb at 9.

The few times I’ve had any interaction with this principal or seen her she’s been nothing but nice. I’ve seen her in the car drop off line too. I’m not sure what your issue with her is.
