I assume 99.9% of steakhouse patrons get apps, soup, salad and/or sides — at least frites. I only want a steak. Literally just a filet on a plate.

Just throwing it out there - get a different cut. A filet is a steak for someone who doesn't really like steak.

What?? A filet is the best cut of steak!

That’s why it’s so expensive!

I weep for the future.

Steakhouse sides are sized to be shared, and people often don't get them if they are dining alone.

Is this your first time at a steakhouse, or dining out at all?

I’m aware. But you could still start with soup or salad. Maybe a shrimp cocktail. And most steakhouses have a petite filet + potato + veggie menu item.

I want none of that. Just wasn’t sure how abnormal this would be to the server or bartender.

You are way overthinking this. They see hundreds of people each week who place all kinds of orders.

Anonymous wrote:Just a medium rare filet. Maybe a gin martini too, but I’m undecided if I’ll drink while I wait for the steak. If no martini, just sparkling water. Absolutely no other food or sides. Just craving a good steak. I’ll tip 20 to 25%, of course.

Is it weird to start a thread about ordering a steak in a steak restaurant and get feedback?

Yes, yes it is

They'd say; 'no sloppy steaks' but they can't stop you from ordering a steak and a glass of water, before you knew it we were dumping that water on those steaks! The waiters were coming to try and snatch em up, we had to eat as fast as we could! OHHH I MISS THOSE NIGHTS

Do you know the kinds of weirdos most bartenders have seen?

I love steak. I’ve tried em all. Filet remains my favorite. And I don’t like cutting around a bone or fat. Sorry, I can’t be converted. Many have tried over the years.

"I'd like the least flavorful steak you have, please! Oh, it's also one of the most expensive? Fantastic!"

Totally full of flavor. Maybe up your game with your quality of restaurant selection.

Not compared to the other cuts it isn't.

First, stop posting multiple virtually identical responses.

Second, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe the bartender will think this is nuts, and you're the strangest patron he ever served. (He won't, but let's assume.) So what? He'll still smile at you, bring your your lonely, (flavorless, but very tender) steak, and go on with his day. He won't think about you again after you sign your receipt.

Are you worries that your picture will be passed around to all the steakhouses in the area? "Beware of this patron, who only orders steak!"

You would assume wrong. Just go ahead and order your filet.

+1
Hate the bone or fat or grizzle stuff. Filet is the best.
