I don’t mind going to a steakhouse but don’t make me pay $100 for my veggies!!!

And I am not a drinker, former alcoholic, so don’t make me pay for your drinks either!!!

Guys, this appears to be a work trip. Doubt anyone is personally paying for anything here. You can all breathe easy.

My daughter is a vegan and can find food pretty much anywhere. She is fully aware other people are not eating the way she is. She doesn't worry about it.

I’d ask them if they are comfortable going there and go from there, that’s kind of you to think of this colleague.

Don’t do what someone I know did- plan a dinner at a steakhouse to celebrate milestone birthday of a vegetarian

Same. I take my husband to out for steak on his birthday sometimes - they usually have a "portobello steak" or a dish that is a combination of 4-5 sides and it's always good. When my dad was young, his colleagues would go out to a steakhouse and the only thing the restaurant had to offer him was a baked potato. Restaurants have come a long way.

I LOVE steakhouses and I’ve been vegetarian for 30 years. But as most have mentioned, everyone has different preferences. They wouldn’t attend if they aren’t comfortable with it.

Go F yourself. There is nothing wrong with being vegan and it is certainly a less obscene, less morally bankrupt way of eating than shoving flesh in your mouth at every opportunity just b/c "I caaaaaan't give up meaat." (I"m not vegan, fwiw. But I see the virtue in it).

And there it is!

I actually really like Fogo de chao and chima. Amazing salad bars. Other steakhouse I will usually pass. I don’t need a tree of broccoli with a large side of asparagus.

Definitely ask and I think it’ll likely not be a dealbreaker. I’m a vegetarian and I’d be excited about any restaurant that has a vegetarian menu.

NP. Classy. I'm sure vegans appreciate having you totally overreact on their behalf.

My H has gone to dozens of work dinners at steakhouses and places like that. They usually have a pasta dish, or can make one, so that's what he expects and is fine with it. He doesn't expect everyone to change plans to accommodate him, but it probably wouldn't hurt to ask your colleague if they are okay with the steakhouse.

I would say "Hi Larla, we already have a reservation for MeatyBonanzaSteak - did you want to check the menu and see if that's ok?"

Run it past them so they are aware, but also make sure they know this reso was pre-planned. It's unlikely theyd put up a fuss, but if they did, Id rather know ahead of time and change the restaurant to avoid a scene.
