I'd have to figure that delay of meet is only called when someone "f**ks around and finds out".

Can anyone explain the different DQs regarding starts and what they mean? It confuses the hell out of me.

The declared false start or DFS is the one that confuses most people. It usually happens when a swimmer tries to time the start and is already moving when the horn sounds but not so soon that the starter issues a stand command. Otherwise, most false starts are early take offs without a horn ever sounding.

This might help too: https://www.pvswim.org/parents/articles/False_Start.pdf

so what's the code for this violation?

Do you mean dq code like ā€˜7c’? There is not a code for dfs. You type dfs into hytec.

Exactly what it sounds like -- it's a bit of a catchall that covers any disruptive behavior delaying the meet. In the case of the January Open, the swimmer stayed in the water to yell at the starter, instead of getting out and allowing the heat to proceed. I've seen it called on kids who repeatedly fail to follow the starter's instructions to take their mark (usually older kids intentionally going down VERY slowly, multiple times in a row). At a high school meet I saw it called on someone taking too long to get up on the blocks when the rest of the heat was ready.
