I have a jacket from there and I get compliments on it when I wear it. Some of their stuff is definitely OTT but I like an occasional piece to liven up outfits.

I had never heard of it until my mother (73) showed me a top she bought there. She is everything described here, rich old hippie.

When I was traveling in Sausalito last fall, I was wearing a beautiful embroidered colorful dress from Anthropologie that I have held onto for several years and always get knock out compliments on. A woman who worked at the gallery we browsed through looked at me and said “Your dress is gorgeous, it’s a Johnny Was?”
I had no idea who that was and had to look it up. I was early 30s.

I'm 55 and I freaking love Johnny Was. It's coastal grandma meets hippie chick and I'm all in on it.

That's because you have to have already paid off your mortgage to shop there.

I think their stuff is lovely and I'm NEVER buying it.

I’ve seen 30 something women in their dresses and it looks very Anthro. But some of the patterns are older looking. In either case, “rich hippie” is accurate.

I agree.

Does it target the same age range as Chicos and Eileen Fisher? I’m in my early 40s and don’t feel quite there yet. I know I should just buy what I like, but am curious.

Yes.

It’s ridiculously overpriced, so I think it’s more for affluent people…regardless of age.

I mean, isn’t Anthropologie for 30/40 somethings?

It really does depend on the pattern. They vary a lot and some look older than others.

I love their short velvet and linen dresses. But they are so expensive. I try to catch them on sale. Sometimes the TJMAXX in Tysons will have some pieces.

I will say I think the billowing pants and oversized shirts a little Chico-est.

I also love Anthropologie. I shop there constantly.
