I took my 10 year old grandson to see Top Gun Maverick and he loved it except for the very tame kissing scenes. After that he saw the original and then many of the Mission Impossible movies. He’s now a big Tom Cruise fan.

Common Sense crazy minus a few years of what normal people do

I look at common sense and subtract 3 years.
I watched basically everything without supervision and turned out fine (ok I am on DCUM, so maybe not totally fine)

HAHA add that in for me too.

I use common sense media and sometimes subtract a year, but not 3.

But I think most people rush their kids out of family shows too fast. The years when they like the innocent stuff go by so fast and there's no shortage of things to watch staying within general age guidelines.

I am the opposite - my mom was very strict about movies and I snuck and watched at friends houses anyway. I think I turned out ok - and I don't think being allowed to watch dirty dancing at home vs sneaking it at a friend's house would have tipped the needle on my upbringing.

There are 2 top guns - and yes, I would let him see both. I know we saw maverick in the theater and i think but not certain he saw the old one at some point at home.

+1 they have their whole adult lives to watch porn or other smut. Why rush it. We follow the common sense media guidelines and the movie ratings. Kids must be 13 to see PG-13 movies in our house.

Why do you subtract 3 years?

I think they are overly conservative. I consider myself fairly uptight but some of their rationale is silly to me.

Yes, but I stood in front of the tv and made jokes during the love scene. He doesn't want to watch that anyway lol
