My 6yo and 8yo both like:
Bluey
Odd Squad
American Ninja Warrior
Food Network competitions: Kids Baking Championship, the adult cookie competitions, Chopped, and Beat Bobby Flay are their favorites. There’s a Dr. Seuss Baking show on Amazon Prime they like, too.

6yo DD likes Dino Dana (Amazon Prime).

8yo DS likes “How It’s Made” episodes, Planet Earth/ real nature shows, and Battle Bots.

If you think your DD would like the reality-based nature and cooking shows, look into Discovery+. It has all the Food Network shows, Animal Planet, Discovery, etc. And How It’s Made is on there, too.

Elena of Avalor, odd squad, wild Kratts, story bots, numberblocks (the multiplication bigger addition ones on YouTube), I love bluey but my kids never really got into it.

My 7 year old watches as many movies and TV shows as she likes as long as homework and activities are done. She is ahead in all subjects (gets mostly 4s on the 1-4 scale). She's a great reader, flys through chapter books, and she's a great leader and listener. I'm not saying you should give them unlimited screentime, but you sound very controlling if at 7 your kid hasn't watched any shows. They will resent you for it if they don't already.

We don’t own a TV it’s not like I’m hiding something from her. It’s just not an option for any of us.

We aren’t a screen free because we are trying to be controlling or we see any real harm in moderate amount of screen time. I wish I was that organized or intentional as a parent, but the trust is we’re just a very ADHD household and screens just don’t hold our attention very well.

I feel like all my kids are fairly well-adjusted in life. And DD has watched movies and TV shows in various situations (friends or family homes). She’s social and has a lot in common wi to her peers. She just hasn’t watched any consistently enough to have a favorite that will hold her attention.

Thanks. She listens to audiobooks and kid-friendly podcasts often but usually while doing another activity. I’m sure she’ll be happy to listen while recovering but we want her to have the visual option of tv as well.

Some of the shows recommended seem a little baby-ish.

My 7 year old loves Wild Kratt's, Magic School Bus, Barbie (there are hours and hours of modern Barbie shows and the the shows and movies made in the past 5 years are surprisingly good), and Ridley Jones. The Spy Kids series of movies is great for early elementary school (I think there are 4 including the new one that we have not watched yet). She also enjoyed the new family movie with Jennifer Gardner (I forget what it's called but it's a cheesy Freaky Friday-esque movie). She also likes the reality shows like Is it Cake and the Floor is Lava, as well as American Ninja Warriors (but she literally takes ninja warrior and gymnastic classes, so that is her jam).
