I would go if my kid had seen our own pediatrician to rule out anything serious and to get a care plan in place. But my kids are the kind of kids who will take Motrin and zonk out at night. They don't stay up calling for us.

Depends. If its 100.8 and baby spends time with grandma on regular basis, yes. Babies sleep early anyways, they'll sleep at least a few hours after a bath and medicine. I'll
not drink though and be ready to leave dinner or show half way if needed.

If fever is 102 and baby only occasionally sees this family member, no way.

No. I couldn't, it would suck but I would be worried and I would get more from being there for my child while they were sick than many other things. It taps into that nuturing side of me which blossoms during situations like that.

How is the kid today, OP? I would certainly be OK leaving my kid with a family member if the kid just has a fever and is responsive to meds. If the meds didn't bring the fever down, or the kid was prone to something like asthma, or there was some concern about needing to go to the ER or something I wouldn't be able to relax and go out. But for a general fever, fine.

Yes I would still go but not overnight. You sitting there and watching your sick kid sleep is not going to help them for the few hours you would have been gone. 800 is a lot of money and I would absolutely not eat it for a minor fever.

My kids are older now but I can’t remember them being THAT sick. Even when they had Covid, it was basically a cold.

If my kid was very sick, I would not go. I would try to sell the tickets. I definitely would skip the dinner and eat at home. I’m almost certain you could switch the dinner to another date. Dh once for a reservation with a Nonrefundable $300 deposit. My friend took our reservation.

If it was a not worrisome fever where kid happy to watch a movie and go to bed, I would go. The last time my kid was very sick, we were at a friend’s for an adult dinner and sitter called us. We went home.

I would still go out. Give the child pain meds. They’re liable to sleep most of the time you’re gone.

I wouldn't feel right exposing someone else to an obviously contagious beggining stages of an illness. But I might consider one spouse attending the event or taking a friend if it could be done that way so we don't both miss out.
