No.
The past two years, room selection has been by lottery. You can deposit as late as May 1st and have the same chance of getting a good (or bad) lottery spot as someone who ED'd. I don't know if they will do a lottery for first years again - they changed the process from when my oldest was a student.
Only exception is that Monroe scholars will get placed in Monroe, but I'm not sure application round affects your chances of getting that.

No.

Thank you! I agree lots of lessons to be picked up here. On our end she was not heartbroken but felt the deferral means other kids are more deserving than her to the point that her first reaction was not to continue pursuing. I got the opportunity to tell her that many kids were totally denied and the deferral is a big compliment to her that means they do feel she is competitive in the RD pool. I’m super proud and she should also be! And… let’s get that LOCI drafted my love… you’re still in the game ❤️

Did she submit SAT? If that was high seems nuts to me not accepted with that GPA if alum (with a side note that say post that legacy status about to mean nothing after this year so good luck now if can help).
She went test optional. Thanks so much for kind words. We def recognized W&M a reach with a 3.9 though. Really hoping that the jump in grades senior year will have an impact. 🤞

Just wanted to say to you that she should be proud of the increase in her GPA. It’s hard to stay focused senior year. Whatever happens with her admits, she’ll carry the qualities she’s cultivating in herself through college and it will help her be much more successful in the long run.
Thanks so much! Very proud of her. She has worked through a ton of major challenges in life to get here. And this is more of a minor one but def ADHD/executive functioning issues… glad to see thinks really clicking on that front senior year.

OP - sorry about deferral I am chiming in to say our DD was deferred from her first choice and we are working very hard to have her accept that a deferral is not a rejection, and hopefully learn patience and that not getting something initially will be helpful in lots of areas in life in the future.
