You forgot to add the scandal at the Planning Board.

The reality is that the incompetence of the Montgomery County Council and their dangerous disregard for the public interest is putting the county at risk.

Montgomery County is not DC where the mayor has near absolute control. The County Executive has limited jurisdiction over schools, parks and planning/economic development.

The Montgomery County Council has exclusive oversight of those functions and there is no ambiguity about the results. They also demand and have the power to award sole source grants to community groups, which is in effect to command a slush fund. It’s wasteful and corrupt, but they don’t care.

You're not alone. About 1/3 of voters in MoCo have no party affiliation.

There's 3 areas you can focus on:

1. Board of Ed. It's non-partisan. Try to get reasonable candidates in, who aren't just union lackeys.
2. Referenda. This is how we got term limits for county council members (and people like Riemer and Berliner out); and limits on property tax increases (it now requires a unanimous vote)
3. Open primaries. This would be the biggest win, but I think it requires a state referendum, not sure.


Related to #2, there are currently on term limits on county exec, so you could focus your efforts on that:

PP was insinuating somebody didn’t live in MoCo even though she said she has kids in MCPS. Clearly that poster doesn’t know what MCPS stands for.

You aren’t alone, OP. There are many of us frustrated and upset with MoCo leadership.

+1 We are probably going to move once we are empty nesters. There are things about MoCo that I like and would consider staying here if not for the progressive politics. We are not MAGA; we are moderate to liberal leaning but not progressive.

I can not sit by the curb no longer.

Someone please point me in the direction of some group that can break the grip of the screaming blue messiahs that have overtaken every single aspect of Montgomery County governance. I understand that general apathy is the main culprit for this current situation. Most people don't vote and/or are completely ignorant of local politicians. This is how the lycra mafia gets their way and they aim to keep it this way.

I saw a glimmer of hope when crowds protested against the school board this past summer. Maybe, just maybe, if some smart, deft people could tap into that frustration and organize the disenfranchised, along with the apathetic, then real change could be possible.

So anyone out there got a name of someone or some group that I can meet up with to initiate a mission impossible and turn the County Council upside down?
