Yeah, it’s sometimes less about the number of credits and more about the availability of classes. I’d guess it’s probably easier at RMIB, which has more sections of the various IB courses.

My non-RMIB kid had to make a few compromises to get all the pieces to fit, but felt it was worthwhile for a well-rounded life.

Mine played HS soccer and lax while being at an IB program. Plus their sports travel team as well. Had no problem at all.

When did they sleep?

If it's only HS soccer and lax no big deal. Many of our kids are doing much more outside school.

My kid, and a good number of their fellow IB diploma candidates, are taking instrumental music at Einstein. It definitely requires taking both health semesters over the summer.

My kid decided to take AP Computer Science Principles for the tech credit, which isn’t offered over the summer, so they did that sophomore year instead of music. If they’d done tech over the summer, they could have taken music all four years.

That’s not true at our school - though most people who do have tech, PE, and health done before junior year (which generally means they take some through summer school).

First, our experience with IB at an MCPS HS (my kid is now a senior) was that he could not do the IB diploma program and do band. It had to do with the mix of SL (1-year) and HL (2-year) classes. My understanding is that different schools may have different classes as SL or HL, and the mix will determine how much room there is, if any, for non-IB classes in a students schedule.
While my kid isn’t doing the diploma because of the band problem, most of his classes are IB. They are work. It seems on par with AP classes, maybe with more writing. My kid enjoys the writing, but does complain that IB writing is very specialized and you have to abandon ‘good’ writing practices to be successful at IB writing.
Anyway, the main advantage of IB, in my mind, has been ensuring my kid is in classes that have high expectations and some rigor.

Does the school have IB Music? Ours does not.

That is one schedule. Others tailor to what their interest is, for example Business HL. Band can fit if that's what your kid wants. Did I miss why band can't be on the schedule?

maybe not band, then, but I know for a fact many IBDP students do a lot of other activities, my own DC included.
