This was my experience as well. I would happily go back to the busy teens years over elder care. I was so glad to have launched the kids so I didn't have them to worry about as well. Elder care has none of the bonuses - you see the end coming, no growth or moments to celebrate and the work draining and no rewards, the worry is endless.

My kids were all easy and are now successfully launched, but I still worry from time to time when they are going through life's basic challenges. Thankfully, the worry is nothing like MS or HS though.

Now I am more of an advisor. I listen and only give feedback when requested.

^^ that....it's nice to see the adults they've become, likeable humans who are compassionate, family oriented and now run their own households...amazing!

I had to put my mom in a memory care facility, I wasn’t able to care for her at home and she needs 24/7 care. It lessons the load some but the guilt is tremendous. I’d raise ten kids at the same time over taking care of an elder with dementia.

Another one who was immediately slapped with elder care. We had 2 months of fabulous freedom and then unexpectedly had to prepare our house to accept a relative with enough memory issues they could not live alone.

I don’t want to be mean because I am lucky to have a parent alive but as PP said it kinda sucks. It really does, and I say it not in a mean I hate my parent way.
