I like to start by making people whatever they want for breakfast. Pancakes? Sure. Egg sandwich? Absolutely.

Then I'll usually bake something in the afternoon.

Nice bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. Made a pasta casserole for dinner last night so that will be lunch. Maybe a simple soup with crusty sourdough for dinner.

I love snow days.

I’m having issues with my stove, but otherwise I would be making enchiladas, black-eyed peas, and my grandmother’s gingerbread.

We love brownies but I only ever make them on snow days. My kids know when they wake up to snow there will be brownies! It’s our snow day tradition- go play in the snow and come home to some warm brownies. We like the Ghirardelli supreme mix with the fudge packet.

I usually make a slower cooker meal. Tomorrow will be steak and veggies or pulled chicken.

The kids bake. They like to make cookies and bread.

I'm lamb and veal stew for Friday's snow day. Earlier in the week, I made a big pot of beans.

Chili, tomato soup, grilled cheese, hot chocolate and apple cider.

If it's a good snow day for sledding and building snowmen, that's it.

If it's the kind of "snow day" that is icy and windy and nobody wants to spend more than an hour outside, I'll add fresh homemade bread and maybe a batch of cookies.

My kid doesn’t like hot chocolate but loves a smoothie, so I make sure to have those ingredients on hand as an afternoon treat after sledding or shoveling. And I will prep some sort of cookie dough in the morning and then bake a tray during my lunch break to have some warm cookies in the afternoon.

Wow, I’m impressed. Baking cookies is like a once year activity for me.

That sounds so good. Do you have a standard Birria recipe you’d recommend?

I like to braise something - lamb, short ribs, etc. sometimes will bake a bread or dessert but I’m trying to cut carbs and homemade baked goods are my weakness so not doing that this week!

Chocolate chip cookies are the main one. But only if we have time. My kids spent all day Tuesday sledding so we barely had time to drink hot chocolate!
