My daughter got a liitle hair at 8, but she is 11 now with no period and no boobs besides the little buds.

We are a hairy family.

The last I saw my DD had a covering of peach fuzzy type hair down there, that was about 6 months ago but being the funny kid she is she likes to keep me informed, she said "mom i have a lot more now

My DD start showing early signs of puberty when she was about 8.5. I thought that was waaaayyy too early. I thought that maybe it's the food and the hormones being added, so I immediately switched to organic dairy w/o added hormones and the best meat where the cows/chickens, etc did not get added hormones. The puberty onset stopped. Things started back up around 11 when I think they were more appropriate. Coincidence? I don't know, but it worked for my daughter.

One little random hair is nothing to worry about.
Just start preparing for the next few years.

No, but I read a lot of tweets about endocrinology and epidemiology on Twitter.

Ive not checked but I don't think she has any pubic hair yet.

My DD is really thin (PP who keeps saying this only happens in overweight girls is wrong) and has a few pubic hairs at age 8. Like other said, it’s definitely within the normal range but discuss with your pediatrician.

And, 8 is definitely past time to talk to your DD about puberty, menstruation, etc. Important to teach our girls that their bodies are nothing to be ashamed of.

It’s true

I would not be worried if it is just one random hair but it is considered "normal" to start seeing puberty signs at her age. My DD is 9, she had her annual exam back in October, the ped had her tanner stages as breast stage 2 so just begining and Pubic hair stage 3, more darker hair filling in. Its not something I checked myself so I did not know she even had pubic hair yet so a bit surprised.

One hair? OP, I would not read much into that. May be a sign, may not be. I’d just ask the ped at her next checkup.

The range is WIDE for puberty. If this is the beginning of puberty (who knows) she will be fine. My older DD was on the opposite end (very late) and she is also fine. Totally normal to be a little concerned as a mom , but it will be ok either way.

My DD is 10. When we went for her annual exam, the pediatrician said she is at stage 1 or 2. She has no breast buds, but her pubic hair seems to be getting a little thicker. She is very hairy so hard to tell. My understanding is that pubic hair IS a sign of puberty. Stage 1 is not sign of puberty and stage 2 is beginning of puberty.

Was just reading a book about puberty (called “This Is so Awkward”) which highlighted studies finding that puberty is beginning earlier (around 8 or 9) but that the age of first menstruation for girls has not moved earlier. I thought this was interesting. My very thin daughter got her first breast bud before her 9th birthday, which seemed super early to me. But our ped was not concerned, and she started menstruation at 12, which I think is right around average. Also, the hormones that cause pubic hair are different than those that cause breast budding and menstruation I think.

All this is to say I don’t think you should be overly concerned, but reach out to your ped if you have questions!
