Lots of schools have high standards. Why is one school with high standards "more prestigious" than another school with high standards?

Some people like "status" cars, houses, clothes, etc. I like elite name schools. To each his/ her own.

Because parents in this town are obsessed with prestige and money and work so hard to obtain them that they have no time for and neglect their children. They think that putting their kids in certain private schools makes them by definition good parents. It makes them feel less guilty for their neglect, while also allowing them to mix with other parents in the same boat at cocktail parties.
