Vermont is not huge but it does not feel small. The roads are slow. Road construction season is short so there are slowdowns everywhere now.
There are indeed towns that many people will find charming scattered throughout the state. But there's a lot of poverty here. There are a lot of places where restaurants/stores that would be acceptable to DCUM types are a solid drive. It would not be too hard for those unfamiliar with VT to select an Airbnb that ends up being pretty far from the type of businesses you'd prefer.
