If you think about it, all the privates should have better college admissions given how few students they send compared to most publics.

What co-ed MD schools (so not SJC) have a similar profile- nice campus, active student life (athletics, service, and extracurriculars), STEM, AP/IB, diverse and decent enough sized that kids can find a strong social group?

My DC is a couple of years from HS, but all of my friends with HS aged kids only talk about GC or SJC and I don't feel like driving into DC. The other co-eds I'm somewhat interested in are K-12s with much smaller upper schools, so the distinctions are more obvious.

Your "top 3" have not been admitted anywhere yet.

GC does not have the academic rigor of other coed schools. College matriculations are not all that good comparatively. But great school spirit. Lovely building.

SJC tuition is lower and they have greater financial aid options, particularly for large families.

That being said, I know kids at both. It’s a good community, the facilities are new, modern, and attractive. It has a phenomenal and competitive STEM program, a program for kids with learning differences, the IB program, competitive sports, fantastic performing arts facilities and classes, and a large enough population that kids find their place. Campus ministry puts together retreats and programming that helps with faith formation. While it may feel like a public, they can and do get rid of kids who are disruptive and clearly don’t want to be there.

White flight. Like a PP said, demographics have shifted in MoCo and while they used to flee to the DC and Bethesda privates, they now have other options.

More demand during the pandemic allowed all of these private schools to seem more selective because they had more applicants to choose from! So every school seems like they have higher standards for admission than they did before.
