The government determines what medicines/substances you can use or not use. That's largely determined by regulatory agencies of the executive branch, but legislative bodies intervene on the regular: see medical marijuana.

Birth Control, specifically of the hormonal type, has costs associated with it. Currently we're ok with those costs: https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/hormones/oral-contraceptives-fact-sheet

What is this veiled threat crap against hormonal birth control you are pushing?

Yes, we are indeed OK with it. Because it FREES us from unwanted pregnancies.

And some of us used it happily for decades.

OP. What’s weird about that PP sharing that link is that from their own link, hormonal birth control use appears to be protective against ovarian, endometrial and colorectal cancer.

It’s also a red herring. It is the ability to control when and how many children that has largely liberated women from a lifetime of thankless and endless hard work and has limited the physical risks of pregnancy and birth, which is of course why Republicans want to ban it.

This is really glib. There is a whole generation of women's lives about to be ruined.

Because it’s never going to happen. This isn’t like reversing Roe. On what legal basis could they do this? And this would be ridiculously unpopular across the country.

Overturning Roe is ridiculously unpopular across the country.
Remember when overturning roe was never gonna happen? I guess you don’t …

If overturning Roe was such a horrible mistake for republicans, who will pay the price in lost elections all over the country, as democrats are constantly telling us, then why are dems upset about them overturning Roe? I mean, dems should be ecstatic they overturned it, because they’ll win elections because of it.

Why are dems pretending to be upset about it? They should be high-fiving each other at all the elections they’re going to win in ‘24. Why claim to be angry about it?

I had a friend who died in childbirth. Another one almost died and lost her uterus in the process. I had a horrendous first pregnancy, labor & delivery and recovery. I don’t take pregnancy lightly and feel angry at the thought of the GOVERNMENT forcing women and girls to go through one against their will.

You’d think republicans with their yammering about freedom and small government would understand that.

Because we care about the lives of women and girls impacted by the overturning of RvW that why. I understand why that’s hard for you republicans to understand given your historical lack of concern for others.

OP and +1. Why would I be happy that millions of women and girls are now having babies they didn’t want and can’t afford? Why would be ecstatic that women are experiencing physical pain and possibly death for want of a simple and safe procedure?

And I’m certainly not going to be happy that the sadist party is now going after birth control too.

This is very hard for MAGAs to comprehend. They just want power and don’t care who gets hurt. So they assume everyone else is the same.

You all said Roe would never be reversed either. Then it was. Abortion bans are very unpopular too, but republicans have enacted them anyway.

The anti-abortionists view the pill as an abortifacient. That’s how.

Another example of a lack of nuance. Given the day-after pills prevent implantation there's no abortion. There never was a viable pregnancy to begin with.

But the anti-abortionists have a hard time accepting such medical realities.

NP. Yes, but they consider life to begin at the moment of fertilization, not implantation. Two entirely different things. Hence their targeting of IVF, as well.
It truly amazes me, just how many people in this country have little to know actual knowledge of the process of human reproduction.

Men want their control of women back and "pregnant in the summer and barefoot in the winter" works well.

Did you just wake from a coma?
They are in process of outlawing a drug used for a medical abortion.
They have been successful and it is going to the supremes this year.
And all sorts of drugs get banned.

OP and I agree with this. Abortion is now illegal in several Republican states, so let’s stop pretending that there’s no way that they won’t do as the promise they’re going to do. Freezing in the face of danger and denying it’s dangerous is the worst thing a person can do.
