His father graduated magna cum laude from this school in undergraduate and went on to earn his masters there as well. His father earned his JD from there. My father taught medicine there for 22 years.
DS has never expressed interest in attending until yesterday. I can't name the school, but for sake of argument lets assume it is Yale.
Is there any chance he would be offered a spot?
Legacy matters less and less. And nothing is happening with an 1180. Definitely don't submit that. A 3.8 is going to be regarded differently depending on the school. Public students with all the APs are rolling with 4.8s. Rigorous courses will matter. So will ECs. And recommendations.
I don't think Yale level schools are realistic.
Ha.
DP. My DD just got ED at UVA with an 1180 and no hooks. We are white and full pay, no legacy.
OP- know that this forum in particlaur is about 7 angry women that want to sh*t on your kid's dreams, that is it.
A nonlegacy applying test optional ED to UVA is not the same situation as a legacy applying to Yale.

OP, DS had slightly lower GPA, much higher test score, a DH w/distinguished alum award (not for service to school but outstanding professional accomplishments), and multigenerational legacy - CCO waved him off as he would get a courtesy deferral followed by a rejection in RD. Basically had already happened to his second cousins.
Chances are probably low to zilch, especially if there are other legacies in class with stronger stats.

Their ages and years in which they applied?

For real?
An 1180 is all it takes for UVA.
Informative.
