5 for K but we'll need FA and even our local Catholic can be hard to get into for parishioners.

The judging on the “we” is funny. Because those who don’t say “we” are really laid back about what happens to their child in this process. Please.

OP it depends on the schools to which you are applying and especially on if they'd have space for 6th--if you are applying to Sidwell, GDS, NCS/STA, Maret, Holton, etc. yes add 2-3 more schools. If you are applying to k-8's, you are probably ok.

We also only completed 2 applications. We started the process at 2 other schools but ultimately withdrew the applications. The baseline for us was, if DC only gets into school X, will we actually send them there, or go to public for a year and try again? In both cases, the answer was to go public, so it didn’t make sense to spend the time and effort on the application process for those schools.

FWIW, kid got into both of the two we did apply to.

“We”. Oof

NP. Yes, “we”. Even for 9th grade applications last year, we the parents had to fill out lengthy questionnaires and be interviewed. We were the ones who had to create the portal accounts, schedule the shadow days, attend open houses. Kids couldn’t apply on their own even if they had the drive or desire to do so.

The kid is in 5th grade! You think they can navigate a private school application on their own? Come on, obviously parents drive the process. This isn’t college admissions.

DP
You do realize the parents write a statement, right? It's important that it's a family applying to 6th. Wierdo.
