Why so much focus on MAP scores for 6th graders in AMP 7+ when they all will land in Algebra 1 next year anyway. This is the first time I have come across this. DC is mu 3rd child going through the same middle school. Is there something I am missing??
You’re not missing anything. That teacher is out of line. They should not be urging your kids to practice or prepare and that is bound to lead to anxiety for both kids and parents. The teacher is motivated by showing improvement that they will claim is due to their teaching.
Our middle school gives kids tickets for the number of hours they spend on IXL that can be exchanged for toys and treats from the school store. Admins are telling teachers in all subjects to push IXL because they have data that shows it boosted test scores and they don’t have time to go back and teach things from 4th grade math that got skipped during the pandemic.
Not a fan of more screens for kids, so that’s a no.
I'm not a fan of written text myself. I prefer things being related verbally like in the olden times.

OK, so you can set your kids up with paper worksheets. Is it so difficult for you to apply common-sense reasoning?
You might benefit from therapy to soften your excessively rigid and narrow interpretations of information.

OK, so? Telling kids to practice at home is good teaching. Good for that teacher. Kids like yours need it. The glorification of laziness has to stop.
Hahahaha that’s hilarious. No my magnet kids with consistent 100th percentile scores do not need it, but thanks for your “advice”!
100th percentile? Hilarious. If your kids are not as dumb as you, maybe you can ask them to explain to you why it is not possible to get 100th percentile.
And perhaps your kids can explain to you the concept of flippantly rounding up from 99.999 to make a point?

The teacher wants your kid to solidify their understanding so they can succeed in Algebra and beyond. She wants the kids to make academic progress, which is measured by the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test.
What is confusing about this?
Study --> Perform -> Certify
Confusing because I have not heard of this much emphasis on MAP scores by a teacher.
Lower income school? If I were a teacher at a lower income school and I knew the district was using that one indicator to make selections for magnet programs that I believed my students deserve to be in I would for sure push this with parents.
