We have this and love it. We took it to my inlaws over the holidays because they wanted to sharpen all their knives.

Another vote for the Union Market guys (and I love the "new glasses" analogy)

Even the "expensive" union market guy is like $15/knife. It's a pretty minimal expense, in my opinion, and well worth it to use someone who specializes.

I have an electric sharpener from Cabela’s, and can adjust it to suit different knives. It works great.

Ace Hardware Tenleytown does it in house while you wait. They charge by the inch. I was pleased with the work.

These are all great recommendations. Thank you all so much!

I use a mail in service called Knife Aid. They send you the packaging and labels, you send them in the mail and get them back in about a week. Super convenient! I usually hold one back so I have knife in the meantime.

I’ve done all of the above (except home sharpening because I have very good knives and I’d hate myself if I wrecked them.)

Sur la Table did the best job, but they’re inconveniently located for me.

Dc Sharps at Union market is pretty good; bonus points when they can do it on the spot and save me the return trip.

My local Ace Hardware sent them, unbeknownst to me, to the Union market guys.
