She refused to help me with this exact thing.

Contact Blair at NestSet

https://nestset.com/

This is exactly what she does for clients. She sells the items too. She comes to your house with lots of accessories and is amazing at creating beautiful vignettes that transform rooms. I used her a few years ago and was thrilled with the outcome.

Yes, she advertises on DCUM and MONA at least once a month so she must be good.

We hired her for suggesting a layout and furnishings for a room. We weren’t able to use any of her suggestions unfortunately. But I have read posts by othee people on listservs who liked her. She may be better at renovations than styling a room.

To clarify, we didn’t think that the layout she suggested or the furnishings would work. The layout wasn’t great and the quality of furniture wasn’t good. We told her this and she said that she didn’t think we wanted better quality furniture which we found really weird.

We used Nicole Lanteri (this was 10 years ago) and she was great for incorporating our existing furniture and suggesting the things we needed. I think I even got her name from this message board:

Assuming you're in the DC area, try Random Harvest Home. They offer a design service that includes a room refresh option. I've never used their services but have bought furniture from them, and they style their stores beautifully.

Looks like this company does hourly consults or a "styling" service. https://www.brittdesignstudio.com/services

I wouldn't recommend The Expert because it's very very expensive and really is only good for a few questions or brainstorming.

I agree that you should look for a decorator rather than a designer and someone who charges an hourly fee. I found mine on Thumbtack. Our project ended up much bigger in the end but she also has packages to just decorate a room around what you have for a fixed fee. You can also use an online service like Havenly.

I am the designer vs. decorator poster and I mention that there is a difference because what the OP has enountered is that designers do not want their project for the various reasons posted, however, an interior decorator does do this type of work--why I said "there's a difference."

I was poking around on Thumbtack and it looks like there were interior designers in DC who have packages for these kinds of things (painting only, reno finishes, etc.) One was called Vita Lucia. Pricing was not posted for that one. Others had hourly fees posted.

Another idea is a “stager”. We worked with someone with a good eye in another state who helped with wall color; drapes and minor decor and art work acquisitions. Came out great AND we were set when we unexpectedly sold a few years later.

I used her and this was not her strength. She also seemed to pass a lot of the work to her junior associate.
