It’s totally inappropriate but probably not severe and pervasive enough to be harassment. But it’s bad enough to report, if you want, and she will probably get a reprimand and sent to refresher training (assuming this is the first complaint).

Another option is for you to tell her “I wanted to say something about your comment. I know you were meaning to be nice but it made me really uncomfortable and I’d really prefer we keep it more professional.” I bet that will shut it down completely. And if it doesn’t, then you really have something to take to HR.

I think she asked because she was thinking they looked good and wanted her husband to look good in them. I don't think it's that deep.

Her intent could have been anything but the comment is clearly inappropriate, not ok for any coworker to say, and REALLY not ok for a boss.

She was flirting. Get over it and yourself.

OP’s story may be fake, but the scenario presented is not unheard off. While uncommon it is harassment. A woman commenting on a guys big butt is the same as a guy commenting on a woman’s big boobs.

Is this some kind of test to reveal that there is gender bias when it comes to harassment?

Also - why did you apologize when she said you had nice glutes (in your fantasy)?

Most men won’t. In the corporate world it’s really rare to see women engaging in this behavior. Women will not embarrass themselves like men do. Women will cry at work and I have seen it happen on a few occasions but besides that they do not put themselves in situations like this.

1. Take comments at face value.
2. If complimentary, say "thank you" and move on immediately.
3. If it crosses YOUR personal line (not what you think is the line), then say: "that was inappropriate and I need you to stop saying that."
4. Contact HR if the person doesn't stop crossing lines.

Most of the time, the comments I hear are simply compliments that sound a little off, and people should just say thank you and move on.

I am surprised by some of the responses here. If the responders were women, I would say that they they are sexist. If the genders were reversed, it would be a no-brainer for them to label it as harassment.

Assuming OP has a real story, I would say this is quite inappropriate, and constitute harassment by your manager.
