Cap One, WF, Truist, Chase, etc. have sizeable presences in the DC area and all pay more than the government. $500K all-in is pretty common for anyone who is fairly experienced. Of course, you can do even better at a law firm if work-life balance is not a consideration.
As someone who worked at wells, it was nowhere near 500k...maybe half that at best
You probably weren't too far out of law school. I am talking about Associate GC level or equivalent, at least 12-15 years of experience.
