Because of weight,cost, and because many people.nowadays can watch on their tablets/phones. Every major US airline has an onboard streaming entertainment system- I have always been able to find something good to watch on my tablet.
Half the time I find the Wi-Fi is terrible and I can’t actually watch the streaming options. I preferred when you could just access movies and shows on the seatback screens.
You're supposed to download shows before you board. That way you don't need the heavy wifi that streaming demands.

When my kid was small, we always flew JetBlue for the snacks and the tv. It kept my kid occupied. Now we have more devices.

No, not at all. Often the stuff available with on-flight entertainment doesn’t actually entertain my kids. They prefer their tablets.

I get why people like them, but I was on an international flight once when some guy behind me was poking the screen during the entire flight (he was paying one of the games). It drove me mad.

No but it's disappointing when there isn't in flight entertainment. The only perk of flying Air Canada are the screens with hundreds of shows, movies, radio, games etc.

No - I find ipad entertainment to be no effort on my part for the kids. They can watch the in flight movies on their ipads these days.

That’s odd. I fly Imited all the time and they always have plenty of movies, TV, news and sports available.
We had this same experience in November when we flew United from IAD to Aruba. After the plane left the continental US, only 4 movies were available, and they were all terrible options. Before it got out of the US, Direct TV was available with lots of channels.
I haven’t flown United to the Caribbean, but domestically and overseas to Europe, there are tons of options.

I like that feature that shows you a map of how far into the journey you are. Other than that, I don’t use the mode screens. So no, I don’t factor that into my travel plans.

Some AA flights do have seat back tv entertainment. There is a backlog of plane orders with Boeing - many airlines are trying to update their fleets.
