My husband was able to talk to HR yesterday and the previous pp was right- it’s not a cobra event. Apparently we should not have dropped his insurance during open enrollment.

I’m super frustrated because I don’t know how we could possibly have understood that by paperwork alone. So, I think we just have to hope for the best for two weeks and no risky activities.

That should be he won’t receive paperwork.

OP, your husband should talk to his HR people. If an employee came to me with this issue, I’d go ahead and enroll him (even though it’s after OE) and then drop him under qualifying event once he presented proof of new coverage.

Look into whether losing his coverage is a qualifying life event. --Not a federal employee, just a guess to try

Federal health benefits don't start until the beginning of the first 2024 pay period, which is January 14 this year. It's really weird because vision and dental benefits do start on January 1.

ARe you sure about that? Insurance starts January 1. Even though first pp starts on the 14th.

OP is right.
