What percent of the class of ´25 do you think has not taken Health B?

You can take health A at any time but there seemed to be rules on health B.

I've been told summer health A will be $300 and summer health B will also be $300.

MCPS is planning to charge for online summer classes? Where did you hear this?

Didn’t they always pre-pandemic?

Hopefully your kid gets in. There isn’t always space. Will they tell you before summer? I thought you don’t find out classes until August. So that would be rotten if they didn’t tell you when you could have taken over summer. Hopefully they have an appropriate process in place to avoid that.

When will they list dates and open registration? It seems so painfully late every year - well after you’d need to make alternative plans if it didn’t work out.

Are kids still Required to wait until 10th grade to take health or can it be done in 9th or summer school after 8th?
What a mess these health classes have been for ‘25 and ‘26.

Honors Health? That has to be a typo right?

LOL I wish it was. MCPS is so ridiculous. There really shouldn't be an honors version of this very basic class. And honestly, since the honors version is the only version of the class offered at my son's school, which has fully bought into the honors for all philosophy, it's even more futile. It's a regular class that is "honors" in name only.

MCPS is ridiculous with the Honors? Because it is the State of MD that added another semester of Health.

Weird that the State of MD would mandate that students take another semester of Health and that it be an Honors course.

The state did not mandate the class be an honors course. The state mandated 1 credit of health classes. MCPS decided to offer an honors version to help boost kids' weighted GPA and in schools that have adopted an honors-for-all model like my son's school, it's all that's offered.

MCPS only offers Honors Health at all high schools.

How is DE counted/weighed? Anyone done the class at MC? Is it the same class?

Just out on email:

Good Day,

You are receiving this email because you have been identified as a student with an Original Year of Graduation (OYG) in 2025 who has not yet earned credit in Honors Health B or is not already enrolled in the course at some point during this school year, or you are the parent/caregiver of such a student. The State of Maryland recently increased the graduation requirement for health from .5 credits to 1 credit. MCPS students with an OYG of 2025 or later must complete both Honors Health A and Honors Health B in order to meet the 1 credit health requirement. MCPS wants you to be aware of the next several opportunities for you to earn this credit.

It is important to note that you must have completed Honors Health A prior to taking Honors Health B. If you have not yet taken Health A, you MUST take that first. Please discuss your plan to complete the health graduation requirement with your counselor when you meet with them to discuss registration for next school year.

Here are your upcoming options for taking Honors Health B:

Take the course In-Person:

In your home school during spring semester of the 2023-24 school year

Reach out to your counselor to determine whether there are spots in Honors Health B courses during the second semester at your school.

In your home school during the 2024-25 school year

You can register for this course when you register for your classes at school for next year.
Questions regarding in-person Health B courses should be directed to your school counselor.

Take the course Online:

Please note that online health courses cover the same amount of material as the semester-long in person courses. The courses are compressed and the pace is extremely accelerated. School year online courses last 6 weeks, and summer online courses last 3 weeks. Before you commit to taking the course in this format, please discuss all options with your counselor.

Spring Semester 2023-24

Students who are eligible to take Health B and who are in the class of 2025 will be given priority registration access from January 3-January 16, 2024. After January 16, the course registration will be open to all students who are eligible to take the course.
Health B online courses are offered on Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 5:00-6:30 pm from April 3 to May 15.
If you are not eligible to take Health B because you have not yet taken Health A, online Health A is offered from February 7 through March 20 (prior to Health B) on the same evenings and times. You can sign up for both Health A and B during the spring semester if you wish.
Here is the link for registration if you would like to take this course (or both courses) in spring 2024. Please note that the registration form will begin accepting responses at 9:00 am on January 3: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSclGsv_jQoo4GXis1EC0NVVW1i9MI8YpZsALXoIhtetp2dYXQ/viewform
Summer 2024 (Dates TBD)

Fall Semester 2024-25 (Dates TBD)

Spring Semester 2024-25 (Dates TBD)

There will be no cost for the Health B course for students in the class of 2025. No online courses provided by MCPS during fall or spring semesters will have an associated cost for students.

Questions regarding online Health B courses should be directed to eLearning@mcpsmd.org

Take the course at Montgomery College through Dual Enrollment:

The course “Health 105” offered by Montgomery College counts for both Health A and Health B credits. Courses are available either online or in person, and courses in the fall, winter, and spring semesters are offered free of charge. If you are interested in taking this course:

Review the MCPS dual enrollment requirements on the dual enrollment website here.
Reach out to your school’s Dual Enrollment Program Assistant (DEPA) as soon as possible. Spring semester classes start on January 22, so you should reach out by January 12th. Please identify your DEPA on the list provided here.
Work with your school counselor and your DEPA to register for the appropriate course.
This course is also available at MC during the summer semester, but students must pay for summer courses at MC.

Please note that seats for these courses can fill up fast, so if you are interested in this option, please reach out to your DEPA as soon as possible.

Questions regarding Health 105 enrollment should be directed to your school counselor and DEPA.
