Leather, although my 20-year old leather couch is finally too scuffed after years of dog claws so we put a blanket over it to prevent the scuff becoming an actual rip.

I don't let dogs on the fabric couch but hair still gets all over it, especially the front near the floor. My lab's stiff guard hairs weave to the tweed and don't vacuum out. I ended up putting a blanket on that one too.

Go for something tight weave or velvet, they are great for dogs and easy to clean. Removable covers are also a must. Look at What A Room they have a lot of dog and pet friendly fabrics: https://whataroom.com/collections/pet-friendly-sofa-sectionals

We actually just keep a dog bed on the couch; it preserves the upholstery from dirt and digging, and it gets washed every week so the couch doesn't get stinky. If we need the space on the couch we just shove it to the side (the dog is small) or put it on the floor for a while.

As previously mentioned, leather from either Room and Board or Crate & Barrel are both great. I would also consider getting the dog their own bed or a plush dog mat that you can place either in front of or to the side of your sofa. We trained our dog with the command 'go to bed' and reinforced with treats when he was a puppy so he would not get on the furniture.

Leather - we’ve had kids and three dogs all over it and the leather still looks great. It’s 22 yrs old and the inside is busted up so it sags. Crate and Barrel

Microfiber or leather. It's hard to predict in advance your particular dog's quirks (chewing leather, licking microfiber), so easy to clean and pet hair resistant is a good bet.
