LOL. They are not samurai swords here. Japan excels at recycling steel rather than make it from raw materials. They already closed a US Steel plant a few weeks ago. The Japanese buyers promised to honor the latest union contracts. Yeah sure. My fear is they will buy the plants and keep them on permanent standby which is something they do. They keep a skeleton crew.
JMO but our farmlands shouldn't be held by foreigners. Our apartments and rental units shouldn't be owned by foreigners, our raw materials that are needed for national security should not be owned by foreigners.

That's easily solved with targeted tariffs. Require American steel to call a car made in America. The nice thing about a massive trade imbalance with Japan is that they don't really have any US exports to target

We need to lose all of our manufacturing ability then lose the reserve currency. The corresponding extreme poverty will give us the ability to work hard, lose the progressive nonsense and rebuild the country like when it was great.
We have gone from the biggest lender and manufacturer with the largest trade surplus to an economic basket case with the biggest debt and trade Devin the world by an exponential amount.
Most do unnecessary jobs producing little and consuming much. The squeeze has started
^ people in this country will refuse to do manufacturing jobs or smell any pollution unless they starve. When the money printing scam tails off there’s gonna be some epic whining.

“Ore-to-table, responsibly-sourced, free-range steel”, lolz! I’m dyin’!
It’s also moronic. They are creating a bigger multinational corporation. You should be ashamed of your lack of comprehension skills.
Oh believe me I comprehend it just fine, Jan![]()
I’m laughing at PP’s spot-on parody of UMC urbanites obsessed with mom-and-pop farm-to-table mixed-use-development responsibly-sourced cruelty-free fair-trade buzzword bingo bullsh!t. Because that was funny AF.
It’s what happens to a money printing population. Persnickety and detached from reality. It’s a natural and normal reponse to consuming exponential amounts than you produce over a long period of time. If Americans are put in a situation where they have to produce .. I predict a sky high suicide rate.

In business school, we repeatedly covered the history of the American labor movement and particularly how the unions were overwhelmingly responsible for destroying the steel industry in the USA.
Trump U?
lol.. Historically, the unions brought us OSHA, better working conditions and pay. I think those are important things.
Currently, the unions are not doing much for the American workers.
There needs to be a happy medium where workers are paid decently but not so much that it does not make it profitable for the business. Having stated that, part of the problem with US companies is the outrageous compensation that execs get. The disparity between execs and wage earners within a given company is huge in the US compared to the rest of the world.
Execs will make decisions to offshore production to save costs, but they would never think to reduce their pay to save any money for the company so that they could keep some jobs here.
