Also fiction but memoir-like is Very Cold People by Sarah Manguso. The author a poet, and it reads as a beautiful (and often sad) series of events in the life of a girl growing up in MA in the 80s.

Try Boy and Going Solo by Ronald Dahl for something with a touch of humor despite tragedy.

This is my personal fave genre so here are a few that I’ve listened to and really enjoyed. Fwiw the only type of book I can listen to is memoir and I believe all of these save one were read by the author:

Misfit by Gary Gulman
In pieces by Sally Field
Maid by Stephanie Land
May I Have your Attention by James Corden
Acid for the Children by Flea

Lab Girl is great. At first, I didn't even realize it was nonfiction.
