Not op but what’s up with Tesla? I almost hit one - same situation as OP but not on highway. The idiot did hard braking and I almost rear ended him. Yes, he was driving Tesla

It's automatic braking. DH's Tesla S does it sometimes and almost gives me a heart attack.

This is what it was.

They slammed their brakes on and came to a stop on the freeway hoping you’d crash into them so they could get a settlement. If you were able to stop in time, they were hoping the car behind you would crash into you and push your car into theirs, then they could demand two settlements.

DP. The only time this has happened to me was when a Tesla cut in front of me on GW parkway in the left lane. There was no room to let them in. They merged unsafely and slammed on their brakes. It felt like a road rage situation that they were purposely trying to cause an accident. Did you have an similar experience?

Anonymous wrote:Safe distance varies by speed. Usually 2.5 car lengths for speeds under 50 mph is enough for me to stop on a dime if the car in front stops. 3.5 car lengths or more if I’m going faster or inclement weather or sunshine.

If I’m maintaining 3 car lengths in fast moving traffic I’m maintaining the same speed as the car in front of me, lessens the urge for others to cut in, and I’m paying attention to at least all 3 cars ahead of the car in front of me if one of those guys brakes, I slow down before the car in front of me brakes

Someone mentioned Teslas up thread, they can stop without braking! It’s a single pedal driving system

LOL. 40 mph means your car travels roughly 60 feet in one second. The average car length is 15 ft, so 2.5 car lengths is 37 feet. You have less than a half second to stop without hitting the car in front of you.

Recommended following distance is 3 seconds (the time it takes you to reach a landmark after the car in front of you). We learned this in Maryland driver's ed in the 1990s.

I don't get it?

TLDR - Tesla drivers stink

Did they stink when they had their prior car or when they are driving their other car that isn't a Tesla?

Tesla seems to attract an unusually high proportion of tools.

Car attracts generally terrible drivers. Known fact.

First, Teslas have two pedals. Second, when a Tesla decelerates quickly without the driver using the brake, the brake light comes on anyway (note that this safety feature does not exist in gas powered cars where you have to actually brake for the driver behind you to know the car is slowing).
