The biggest flaw in the state rankings is that EML students end up effectively counting in multiple categories. The increasing EML population is a big impact. Yes, many EML students also qualify as FARMS, but many do not. MoCo has always been the destination for many families serving the embassies. As our diversity has grown, we attract immigrants from all around the world and their children are getting great educations. It just doesn’t get captured they way the state tracks the data.

Yes publics are for the impoverished, overwhelmed or confused families.
It’s sad because it wasn’t always this way in the United States. I’m from another country and I always felt that the US public education system was quite strong. I firmly believe that education is an equalizer and a good public education system is essential.
The country I come from has mostly poor people in public schools, which wealthy families pay for private. It’s a sh$tty system that keeps certain families down.
I hope the US can fix its public education woes. My kids are in HS and we have stuck with MCPS but have watched its decline.
Not sure if this is masterful satire or a hilarious lack of self awareness and critical thinking

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:As schools decline so will property values. W schools and BCC have now slipped from 5 star schools to 4 star schools. Why would anyone pay a premium to live in MoCo now? And they raised taxes for this disaster..
The county rolls out the carpet for illegal immigration, they're all poor, and now schools qualities decline. Totally predictable. Now people with means will flee and hasten the decline of the county.
Disagree.
Nothing about the schools changed, really, for people who are buying property in these zones. Sadly, actually, for white and asian kids, the scores dropping actually indicate BETTER academic experiences for them, because the scores dropped due to underperforming minorities and inequitable discrepancies (of which the sample size is small for Ws). If you're a white or asian family looking for a safe bet for your kid, these new ratings indicate the schools that dropped from 5s to 4s are better for your kid, not worse. I'm not saying this is good or fair but I am saying this will not affect property values.
