I don't think all parents think their kids are attractive. My kid is gorgeous - objectively so. I am so grateful I only have one kid, and one reason is that the second one can't possibly be as attractive. That would be really sad. God we are a shallow species.

I think parents are biased in favor of their own kids, especially if their kids resemble them!

My kids are cute, but not striking. My oldest was never a chubby baby or toddler. He looked like Mr Burns from the Simpsons as a baby - not cute! The same oldest kid looks just like my husband and I fully expect him to go through a really awkward stage just before puberty. My younger kid may make it through with less awkwardness, but is prone to getting chubby before each growth spurt.

There are not a lot of truly ugly kids that I run into, but my one neighbor has a son who has a recessed chin and huge ears. He was so unfortunate looking for years - but now that he’s 10/11 he is growing and it’s less pronounced and he is very average looking now.

My friend is always saying how ugly her kids are but she loves them anyway. It's petty crazy because she just says this in front of them. And she talks about how asymetric their faces are

My mother would regularly tell my sister and I that I was pretty and my sister wasn't.

It's no shocker that my sister and I still don't get along. (Interestingly, my sister and my mother got along well, and my mother and I did not).

Idk, first two were pretty beautiful from the jump, our 3rd was weird looking for the first year or so but is now very cute. Honestly surprised he got this cute, I thought he might stay a little weird looking.

I have two boys and a girl. I think my boys are very handsome and my daughter is really cute.

I’m not delusional and think they are gorgeous. I do think they are above average and will be attractive.

There are some kids who were beautiful young children who look average and not good looking as they age. Cute doesn’t always turn to pretty. I have a middle age friend who was the cutest little girl. She was cute until college. Her cute face doesn’t look that good at age 45. Another friend of mine was the prettiest teen. She also did not age well. She is a 40 year old single mom and you could never tell that she was the it popular girl in high school.

On the flip side, I have one friend who was overweight and just super plain as a child. She wore glasses or had a chubby face. She has had some plastic surgery - nose, eyes, breasts and eats healthy, works out and has great style. She is probably my most attractive adult friend.

My kids are adopted, so I don’t see myself or my partner in them. They are the most beautiful people in the world to me. I doubt I would see it if they weren’t objectively good looking.

I've had the same thought! I remember thinking they were the cutest thing on earth and a couple years later seeing the same picture and wondering why I did a whole photo shoot for my hairless potato. But, wait a few years and you'll love the baby photos again.
I hope all parents find their kids adorable no matter what they're looking at. I think my kids are the most beautiful kids but I doubt anyone, except grandma, would agree.

On the flip side, can a parent "see" if their child is unattractive or unconventionally unattractive? For example, there is this mom that posts on FB all of the time and her child is overweight, has facial features similar to Megan Markeles father.

It doesn't matter if you kid is conventionally good looking (the way human minds are conditioned over centuries) or not. Your job is to make them understand superficiality of it all and need to be a kind, smart, capable and confident human.

Only a face a mother would love hits close to home with this thread

I look back at some photos I posted of my kids as babies/toddlers and some of them I'm like, "yikes! Why would I post THAT?!" but at the time I thought they were the most adorable babies on the planet.

I think my children are attractive. Then again, they are my carbon copies, and I like what I see when I look in the mirror .

Mine was a funky looking baby, conventionally cute toddler that got lots of compliments from strangers, and now is an average looking older child. Nicer looking than some, but not pretty like others. Both sides of the family are all average to slightly above average in appearance, and I'm assuming she'll fall in that range too. Puberty will tell if she gets any of the, ahem, strong features from either family, and whether she ends up built like the tall, but "sturdy" Scandinavian women in DH's family. That said, she has gorgeous eyes and will be tall and blonde, and has a confident, kind, winning personality, so she'll be able to play up her looks if she cares to and won't be below average to the point where it could be a detriment in life.

She also looks like a perfect mix between DH and me, so is the most gorgeous child I could hope for. She didn't come out looking like what I imagined at all, but is perfect and I can't wait to see what she looks like as she grows into adulthood.
